Martyn was first exposed to music as a toddler while watching the house band at the ACKEY DACKEY, a burlesque club in Liverpool, England owned by his father. He was fascinated by the drums and would sit in the wings and bang on his favorite biscuit tin while legendary drummer Stubby Stubbs pounded out stripper rhythms on stage. The club was sold in 1964 and he immigrated to San francisco with his parents. Although he majored in photography and television production in college, he always gravitates back towards music. He has performed with the likes of : THE KRONOS QUARTET, ukulele and vocal virtuoso, TINY TIM and blues legend, JOHN LEE HOOKER. For the past twenty years he has been playing and touring with THE MERMEN, San Francisco's own psychedelic instrumental trio. Go to any Mermen show and there you'll see him, pounding out grooves just like Stubby. Martyn has had a passion for photography and the visual arts since childhood having won awards for drawings when he was in grade school and recognized for his photography from a young age. He obtained his first camera when he was nine and had his first paid photography gig when he was ten (covering the Scottish highland games for the British American club). He has studied black and white photography, stereoscopic photography (using a View master camera) and have embraced digital. Please check out his portfolio gallery. He also works as an actor; recently, appearing as the security guard in NEIL YOUNG'S FILM, GREENDALE and as the drummer and Jewish porn king in the hilarious comedy, MY DEAD UNCLE'S BAND, You will also be able to see him as the mean spirited corporate goon in the upcoming feature, TEENAGE LYCANTHROPE to be released soon. As well as the Mermen, his current musical endeavor is a folk rock opera entitled: DONNER, A MUSICAL CELEBRATION OF AMERICA'S FAVORITE CANNIBALS. For this, he has written twenty two songs and is in the process of recording them. He also plays the role of Ringo in THE PLASTIC ONION BAND, celebrating the music of The Beatles.
